We’re excited to officially welcome Dr. Tom Hamilton to the Sturbridge Veterinary Hospital team as our new Chief of Staff. With a strong background in small animal medicine and a deep commitment to client education and community-focused care, Dr. Tom brings both experience and fresh energy to our hospital. About Dr. Hamilton
Dr. Thomas Hamilton grew up in Fort Salonga, a quiet town on Long Island, before relocating to Medfield, Massachusetts at age 18 when his father’s job was transferred. That move led him to attend UMass Amherst for his undergraduate studies, where he began laying the foundation for a career in veterinary medicine. He went on to earn his DVM from St. George’s University in 2017, completing his clinical training at Cornell University. There, he gained valuable experience in large animal medicine—though he jokes that he lost a few friends because of the smell.
Despite his appreciation for large animal work, Dr. Hamilton’s passion has always been companion animals. He has spent the last eight years focusing on small animal medicine with special interests in surgery, dentistry, client education, and integrating social media as a platform to connect with clients and educate the broader community.
Known for his calmness during high-pressure cases and his ability to bring laughter to any exam room, Dr. Hamilton believes in building trust first—between doctor, client, and pet. “Once that trust is there,” he says, “great medicine follows.” He emphasizes teamwork, communication, and mentorship in the clinic, creating a collaborative environment where everyone feels supported.
Dr. Hamilton recently moved to Charlton, MA with his wife, Katelyn—a veterinary nurse. They are expecting their first child, a son named Thomas Robert Hamilton Jr. (TJ), and are thrilled to be putting down roots in the community.
As Chief of Staff at Sturbridge Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Hamilton is passionate about rebuilding the hospital into what it once was—a bustling, compassionate practice with a country-town feel. He’s committed to earning the trust of the community and delivering the high-quality care their pets deserve.
At home, Dr. Hamilton enjoys hiking, landscaping, riding his Polaris ATV through the back woods, working out, and cruising the backroads on his Honda CBR F4i. He shares his life with a lively bunch of pets, including his dog Maci, three cats—Rocky, Rambo, and Wyatt—two turtles, a koi pond, a corn snake named Ophelia, and a pineapple conure named Harley.
